How to Get Your Film on Amazon Prime: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re an independent filmmaker looking to get your film on Amazon Prime, you’re in the right place. Amazon Prime Video is one of the most popular streaming platforms, and having your film on it can be a huge step forward in gaining visibility. In this blog, we’ll explore two ways to get your film on Amazon Prime: using Amazon Slate for self-distribution and using Filmhub (referral link in this blog), a distribution service that helped my film Zen Comedy get on the platform in multiple countries.
1. Amazon Slate (Self-Distribution)
Amazon Slate is the self-distribution platform that allows filmmakers to upload and distribute their films directly to Amazon Prime Video. It sounds like an ideal solution for those who want to maintain control over their film’s distribution without involving third-party distributors. However, here’s a key issue to keep in mind: at the moment, Amazon Slate is not accepting all new sign-ups from what I hear. This has been a challenge for many filmmakers hoping to use the platform, and unfortunately, there isn’t a clear timeline on when or if this will change. Plus, getting an account does not mean they will accept your project.
If you’re able to sign up for Amazon Slate in the future, it’s a relatively straightforward process:
- Create an Account: Sign up for an Amazon Video Direct account, which gives you access to Slate.
- Prepare Your Film: Ensure your film is in the correct format and meets Amazon’s technical specifications.
- Upload Your Film: After your account is set up, you can upload your film to the platform.
- Choose Your Distribution Model: Amazon allows you to choose between different revenue models such as rentals, purchases, or inclusion in Prime Video’s subscription library.
- Launch Your Film: Once your film is processed and if it is approved, it will be available to Prime members but only in certain countries available to you.
However, given that Amazon is not currently accepting new sign-ups, the next best option is using a third-party distributor like Filmhub.
2. Using Filmhub for Distribution
Filmhub is a great alternative for filmmakers who want to get their films onto Amazon Prime Video and other streaming platforms. It’s the route I took for my film Zen Comedy, and the process was seamless and effective.
What is Filmhub? Filmhub is a distribution platform that connects filmmakers with streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, and more. Instead of dealing with the complexities of direct distribution, Filmhub does the heavy lifting for you. They have a vast network of distributors and licensing partners, which means your film can potentially be seen by audiences all around the world.
Here’s how you can use Filmhub to distribute your film:
- Sign Up: Create a Filmhub account and upload your film. You’ll need to provide all the necessary metadata and content (like film description, cast and crew information, etc.).
- Review and Quality Control: Filmhub will check your film to ensure it meets their quality standards and technical requirements. They’ll also ensure that it fits the platform’s content guidelines. They have many blogs about this process.
- Distribution: Once everything is approved, Filmhub will pitch your film to their network of streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime. I personally used Filmhub to get Zen Comedy onto Amazon Prime, and it’s been available in multiple countries, expanding my audience significantly.
- Revenue Sharing: Filmhub operates on a revenue-sharing model, so you’ll earn money based on views and royalties. The good thing is that they don’t require an upfront fee; instead, they take a small percentage of the revenue generated.
One of the best parts of Filmhub is that they don’t limit you to just Amazon Prime. Your film can end up on other platforms like Tubi, Roku, Hulu, Netflix and many international streaming services, opening up global exposure.
Why I Chose Filmhub for Zen Comedy
When I decided to release Zen Comedy onto streaming platforms, I wanted a distribution service that would handle the technical and logistical side of things while still allowing me to maintain control over my project. Filmhub was a no-brainer, and they’ve been fantastic at getting my film out to a wide audience. I’ve had my project streamed in many different countries, which is something I couldn’t have done on my own, especially without the hassle of direct negotiations with each platform.

Final Thoughts
While Amazon Slate is an ideal option for filmmakers looking for self-distribution, it’s currently unavailable for new sign-ups. In the meantime, Filmhub provides an excellent alternative for filmmakers to get their films on Amazon Prime and other major platforms. With their broad distribution network and simple, revenue-sharing model, it’s a fantastic way to share your film with a global audience without all the complicated logistics.
So, whether you’re an experienced filmmaker or just starting, getting your film on Amazon Prime is within reach, especially with the help of Filmhub. Good luck with your film journey!
