Very Talented Kerri Gallagher Stand-Up Comedian

In this episode of the Zack Lyman Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the talented stand-up comedian Kerri Gallagher (Seen On Amazon Prime) We kicked off the conversation by discussing our mutual acquaintances in the comedy scene and how we’ve crossed paths over the years without really getting to know each other. Kerri shared her unique journey into comedy, which began with her first open mic experience in 2009 at a coffee shop in Westchester, Pennsylvania.

She humorously recounted her initial set, which focused on her disdain for dolphins, and how her early influences were primarily female comedians known for their edgy and often raunchy humor. Kerri Gallagher took a performing break to find her voice, returning to the stage in 2015 with renewed confidence. We reminisced about our shared experiences in the Phoenix comedy scene, including our time at Stand Up Scottsdale and the anxiety that often accompanies being a newcomer in the industry.

As we delved deeper into her career, Kerri highlighted some of her significant milestones, including performing at the Tempe Improv, a venue she had long aspired to grace since her college days at Arizona State University. She also discussed her passion for creating a talk show format, which led her to start a podcast in 2018. This project evolved into a live show, “It’s a Talk Show,” where she combined comedy with interviews, although she faced challenges with venue owners who didn’t recognize her efforts.

Kerri opened up about her goals for the future, including her aspiration to film a Dry Bar comedy special and to book out-of-state gigs. I shared my own goals, reflecting on how the pandemic had shifted my ambitions and how I was focusing on creating quality footage of my performances.

Throughout the episode, we discussed the importance of setting manageable goals, the hustle behind the scenes in the comedy world, and the creative processes we both employ in our writing. Kerri’s insights into her writing routine, which involves capturing ideas through audio and setting aside dedicated time for development, resonated with me.

As we wrapped up, Kerri shared her upcoming shows, including performances in Las Vegas and Glendale, Arizona, and we both expressed excitement for the future of our comedy careers. We ended on a light note, planning to create vision boards together in January, complete with crystals and Rosé.
